Just like the Membership built-in products but, in this case, you can put on sale the desired Privilege Sets corresponding to Author or Contributor access levels. This means that your Users can become a Contributor or Author (with the corresponding Privilege Set) after paying the amount of money that you specify.
The procedure is very simple:
1. Create a Privilege Set (for Author or Contributor access level) and specify the privilges that you want to grant.
2. After creating the Privilege Set (in the edit screen) click the "Store" tab and set the "On Sale" drop down as Yes.
3. The corresponding options for the Membership product will appear:
• SKU: (Informative) This is the internal SKU for the product.
• Title: Enter the title for the Membership. Enter a representative title but keep it short.
• Description: Enter a detailed description so that your Users know exactly what will they be able to do after purchasing the Membership.
• Price: Enter the pice for this product (use the number format as defined in the Regional Settings of the WebTV configuration).
• Period: [Scheduler extension required] When an User purchases the membership, the WebTV will create a Scheduler task to revert the User access level after the specified period elapses.
The Store extension also allows you to sell arbitrary products of the following types: "service" and "donation". The word "arbitrary" means that you can create any number of those product types, name them whatever you want and set the desired price for them. In this case, the extension is a mean/tool that allows you to bill for an "arbitrary" concept, directly from your WebTV.
Creating arbitrary products
This is very simple.... go to Store > Other Products > New
Product and select the desired product type, then set the corresponding options and that's it.
Difference between "service" and "donation" products
The only difference is that a "service" product allows you to specify a fixed price; however, a "donation" product allows to to set the possible donation amounts as comma separated values; additionally, a "donation" allows you to provide a "thank you" message too.
